Jelena Dokic is an Australian tennis coach, commentator, writer, and former professional tennis player. Her highest ranking as a tennis player was world No. 4, in August 2002. She won WTA Tour events on all surfaces during her career.
Dokic began playing tennis at the age of six, and by age 11, she and her family had moved to Australia. She turned professional in 1998 at the age of 14 and quickly rose through the ranks of women’s tennis. She reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in 2009 and the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2000.
Despite her successes on the court, Dokic’s career was plagued by personal and family issues, including an abusive father who also served as her coach. In 2009, Dokic published a memoir, “Unbreakable”, in which she detailed the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father.
Dokic retired from professional tennis in 2014 and has since worked as a tennis commentator and coach. She has also been an advocate for victims of domestic abuse and has spoken publicly about her own experiences to raise awareness of the issue.
