Steven Adams is a New Zealand professional basketball player who currently plays as a center for the Memphis Grizzlies in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born on July 20, 1993, in Rotorua, New Zealand, and is the youngest of 18 siblings.
Adams began his basketball career in New Zealand before moving to the United States to attend high school and play college basketball at the University of Pittsburgh. He was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft.
Adams played for the Thunder for seven seasons, where he became known for his tough and physical playing style, rebounding, and shot-blocking abilities. He helped the Thunder reach the NBA Finals in 2012 and the Western Conference Finals in 2014 and 2016.
In 2020, Adams was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans, where he played for one season before being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2021.
Adams has also represented the New Zealand national basketball team, helping them win a gold medal at the 2009 FIBA Oceania Youth Tournament and a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He is known for his charity work in New Zealand and has established the Steven Adams Foundation to support underprivileged children.
